TAX COUNSELING FOR SENIORS

Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program (TCE)

Need help with your taxes? The Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program (TCE) of the Alliance on Aging provides free assistance in preparing state and federal tax forms to Monterey County residents 60 years of age or older, blind, or disabled. The service begins on February 1, of each year throughout the County.

TCE is a service of the Alliance in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service and the Franchise Tax Board of the State of California. Volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS to prepare simple federal forms as well as State tax returns.

Free electronic filing (e-filing) is available. Check with the Alliance on Aging office closest to you to make arrangements to e-file.

Taxpayers wanting to take advantage of this volunteer assistance program should bring the following with them when they visit a TCE site:

  • Picture identification and social security card
  • A copy of last year's federal and state tax returns
  • Form W-2, “Wage and Tax Statement,” from each employer
  • Forms 1099, for such things as interest or dividends distributions from pensions annuities, IRA's, sales of stocks, etc.;
  • A list of other income and expenses;
