What is HomeShare?
Homeshare
is one of eight service programs of the Alliance
on Aging of Monterey County. The program connects
people with extra space in their homes with
compatible individuals who provide non-personal
services such as shopping, cooking, transportation,
or companionship, in exchange for rent. To be
eligible for HomeShare participants have to
be 55 or older.
How
does it work?
If
you are a Senior Home Owner we will:
- Come to your home to determine your needs
and wishes and to complete an application.
- Refer qualified applicants who can provide
assistance to you.
- Complete a HomeShare agreement between you
and your housemate.
If
you are a Home Seeker we will:
- Ask you to complete an application form.
- Interview you to learn about you and your
housing needs.
- Make every effort to refer you to a compatible
homeowner.
- Complete a HomeShare agreement between you
and your housemate.
HomeShare
cannot:
- provide emergency housing
- make placements for caregivers
- act as a landlord-tenant agent
HomeShare clients must be mentally clear. In addition,
they must be capable of managing their own personal
care and medications.
