Although the Alliance on Aging does not provide 24-hour emergency response service, assessments and treatment for dementia, or counseling for addictions and major mental illnesses, the Senior Peer Counseling Program can refer you to local services that will help you in these situations. Call us for direction to the program that will best meet your needs.
Senior Peer Counseling Program |
The Senior Peer Counseling Program offers confidential, no-cost counseling services to older adults in Monterey County who are experiencing some of the problems that accompany the aging process.
Senior Peer Counselors offer emotional support, guidance, and empathy to people over the age of 55 who may be facing the death of a spouse, the stress of an illness, isolation from family or friends, and other life transitions. Talking with someone of a similar age, with related life experiences and values, can help a person work through feelings – or make decisions- about the challenging issues associated with aging.
Support groups are offered at select venues within the county and focus on a variety of themes related to the aging process. Group meetings are facilitated by experienced Senior Peer Counselors and may be time-limited or ongoing.
"A Place To Talk" discussion group is ongoing.

Senior Peer Counselors are mature, compassionate men and
women who are recruited from our community. They are trained
and supervised by mental health professionals.
Please call us if you think the Senior Peer Counseling Program might be helpful to you, if you want to learn about volunteering in this program, or for more information.
